Why Doesn't the Alice Skort Have Pockets?

The answer comes down to fit.

One question we hear about the Alice Skort is a simple one: Why aren't there pockets on the outside?

The answer is equally simple: because every seam on the Alice is there for a reason.

When we designed the Alice, we wanted a skort that performed on the course but looked incredibly flattering while doing it. That meant reconsidering some of the traditional construction you'd expect to find on an athletic skirt, including where the seams sit and, ultimately, where the pockets could go.

It Starts at the Waist

Look closely at the Alice and you'll notice that the seam isn't positioned directly at the side of the body. Instead, we've shifted it slightly away from center.

It's a small adjustment with a noticeable effect. By changing where the eye sees that line, the waist appears narrower and more defined. Rather than simply following the natural sides of the body, the construction helps create shape.

Then We Moved the Side Seams

The same thinking continues through the skirt.

Instead of placing the side seams directly along the outside of the legs, we've wrapped them toward the back. When worn, the front panel extends around the body, creating a cleaner, narrower line from the front.

It's one of those details you might never notice when looking at the Alice on a hanger. Put it on, however, and you see exactly why it's there. The construction creates a streamlined silhouette without relying on compression or an overly fitted cut.

So, Why No Side Pockets?

This is where everything comes together.

To add traditional exterior pockets, we would need to move the seams back to the sides of the skirt. Doing that would interrupt the wraparound construction and add volume at exactly the place we're trying to minimize it.

The skirt would begin to kick outward from the hips, creating more of an A-line silhouette rather than the clean, streamlined shape of the Alice.

So we made a choice.

Rather than compromise the fit for an exterior pocket, we kept the silhouette intact and built the pockets into the shorts underneath.

You still have somewhere practical to keep the essentials you need on the course, without changing the way the skirt falls on the body.

Designed With a Reason

Good design isn't always about adding more. Sometimes it's about knowing what to leave out.

From the placement of a seam to the position of a pocket, the smallest decisions can completely change how a garment looks and feels when you put it on.

The Alice is a perfect example. What looks like a simple skort is actually the result of considered construction designed to flatter the body, move beautifully, and perform where it matters.

And yes, there are still pockets.

We just put them exactly where we wanted them.
