A Closer Look at the Susi Wax Jacket

A Closer Look at the Susi Wax Jacket

Some pieces are designed for a season. Others are designed to collect them.

The Susi Wax Jacket belongs to the latter. New for Fall '26, it draws inspiration from the long tradition of British sporting outerwear, where clothing was made first and foremost to stand up to the elements. Crafted from waxed cotton and finished with thoughtful details throughout, the Susi is designed to be worn often, cared for, and kept for years to come.

The Story of Waxed Cotton

Waxed cotton has its roots in Britain’s maritime and outdoor traditions. For generations, it has been relied upon for its ability to provide protection from unpredictable weather without the weight or feel of conventional technical outerwear.

The Susi carries that tradition forward. Its 100% cotton outer is treated with wax, creating a naturally wind-resistant and water-repellent barrier while allowing the fabric to remain breathable.

But what makes waxed cotton particularly special is what happens after you begin wearing it. Rather than staying untouched, the surface softens and develops subtle creases, variations, and marks over time. A patina begins to form, giving each jacket a character specific to the person wearing it. In other words, the Susi is designed to look better lived in.

Designed to Be Kept

The longevity of waxed cotton extends beyond the fabric itself. Unlike outerwear that loses its performance and eventually needs to be replaced, a waxed jacket can be re-waxed to restore its weather resistance. It can also be repaired, allowing its life to continue season after season.

It’s an approach to clothing we believe in at Williams: invest in better materials, take care of them, and make pieces worth holding onto.

Built for Movement

Of course, heritage only matters if the piece works for the way women dress today.

The Susi features a swing-back construction that creates room for movement without overwhelming the silhouette. A snap-front closure keeps the design streamlined, while cotton velvet at the collar and cuffs introduces a softer contrast to the rugged character of the waxed cotton.

The result is an outer layer that feels just as natural over golf clothes on a cool morning as it does thrown over a sweater and trousers for a weekend away.

A Jacket That Becomes Yours

There is something refreshing about owning a piece that isn’t supposed to remain perfect. Wear the Susi in the rain. Pack it for weekends away. Throw it over the back of the golf cart. Re-wax it when it needs it. Repair it years from now.

Every season will leave something behind. And that is exactly the point.
