THE WILLIAMS GUIDE TO NEW YORK FASHION WEEK

THE WILLIAMS GUIDE TO NEW YORK FASHION WEEK

A little history, a little style, and what we're wearing.

Before New York Fashion Week was as we know today, it began as a way to put American fashion on the map. In 1943, World War II made travel to Paris difficult, leaving American designers with an opportunity to step into the spotlight. New York began hosting collections for the press, creating a fashion week of its own, and establishing the city as a force in American fashion.

What began as a way to showcase American designers quickly grew into something much bigger. Over the decades, New York Fashion Week became a defining moment on the fashion calendar — bringing designers, editors, buyers, celebrities, and fashion lovers together twice a year to see what comes next.

Today, NYFW is relevant to even those who aren’t sitting in the shows or walking the runway. It is a bustling atmosphere that brings fashion to the forefront of our minds and our feeds as we enter into the next season. From the runway to the streets of New York, fashion week has become just as much about personal style as it is about the collections themselves. Getting dressed for the day is all part of the experience.
